Reporting to the Director, Global Ethics and Compliance, this position has primary responsibility for international data privacy issues for a multi-national, leading technology solutions provider. The Senior Privacy Counsel provides practical, business-oriented compliance support and legal advice for regulatory and compliance topics/issues related to privacy, data protection, information security, and other regulatory and compliance issues.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Oversee the implementation of CDW’s global data privacy strategy, with executive direction as necessary.
Implement and support consistent data privacy policies and practices across CDW.
Formulate and disseminate enterprise-wide data privacy policies for U.S. and Global operations.
Ensure CDW has fully documented policies and practices in place, consistent with local laws.
Identify issues of highest risk facing the company; propose and drive solutions to address those risks.
Cross-functional leadership and engagement:
Provide leadership and foster engagement with cross-functional teammates including, but not limited to, global sales, integrated technology solutions, information technology, information security, human resources, partner and product management, finance, and audit.
Effectively champion a principles-based data privacy approach throughout the company.
Identify and resolve issues that have the potential for brand impact for business and legal consideration.
Conduct data privacy impact assessments for large IT and enterprise services, programs and systems.
Continually test and improve data privacy processes and governance.
Maintain knowledge of the relevant information technology systems and applications to drive systematic solutions and improvements.
Provide subject matter expertise regarding data privacy and data security provisions within commercial deals.
Education and Awareness:
Maintain knowledge of external business and legal landscape in data privacy and proactively propose new or updated business processes or practices.
Develop and augment internal efforts to create integrated data privacy governance by monitoring the relevant legal, regulatory and policy developments, collaborating with external stakeholders.
Create content and guide delivery of company-wide and roles-based education and awareness of data privacy issues and their impact to our brand and business.
Grounding in global laws and government activity related to data privacy.
Liaise with privacy professionals at peer companies and industries.
Assist with special projects and other matters as needed to support the
General Counsel and other members of the Legal and Ethics &
Assist in acquisition, divestiture and similar transactions.
Be flexible and dependable in daily work schedule as required.
Participate as a full member of the Compliance & Ethics team. Coordinate with Compliance & Ethics team and broader Legal Department to ensure consistency with corporate policies.
Proactively manage to CDW legal budget.
Utilize Legal Department matter management system and document management system to manage internal matters and coordinate matters with outside counsel and to maintain electronic filing system.
Work with paralegals and legal administrative staff in order to complete projects in an efficient manner.
Additional projects and duties as assigned.
Travel periodically to other CDW locations
JD Degree or equivalent credentials (such as LLM).
10 years significant legal or advisory experience within a corporation, consulting firm, or law firm.
Licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
Multi-national privacy, data protection, or other related legal experience required.
